In this episode of the Operation Self Reset podcast, Jake is talking with Todd Herman from The Peak Athlete.
Todd grew up on a big ranch in Alberta, Canada, and has traveled and lived all across the world. He now lives in New York City, where he runs his website The Peak Athlete and works as a mental coach for athletes. Todd was a really good athlete in school, but he had no leadership skills and thought he knew everything. His coach pulled him aside and told him that he wasn’t going to get anywhere if he didn’t change his mental performance. So Todd started reading books on improving your mental performance and outlook, and learned that his mindset was just as important as his physical abilities.
As Todd tells us, there is a thinking world, a feeling world, and a behavioral world. This means that the way you think about yourself affects the way you feel about yourself, which then affects the way you act. If you think you aren’t good at something you have to do, you’ll feel bad and believe that you’ll do badly, which will then make you avoid doing it or else perform badly when you do face that situation. But this can be changed just by changing how you think. What aspects of your life are you letting your own thoughts about your abilities control how you handle them?
Listen in as Todd tells us how to bring out our best selves hidden inside our heads.
