In this episode, Jake is talking about leadership.
Leadership is a long journey of not only discovering yourself as a leader, but helping others better themselves. How do you do that? First things first, you need to take responsibility for yourself, your life, and where you are. The biggest problem Jake has seen in helping people work toward becoming great leaders is that they aren’t willing to take responsibility for where they are in life. It’s easy to find other things to blame: the economy, the weather, the way we were raised, other people. But you can’t move ahead in life until you take 100% responsibility for where you are right now.
What does it mean to take responsibility? Figure out why something you tried in life didn’t work, why you failed. Don’t look for blame on other people or events, focus on yourself. Look within. Ask yourself, “Why is it I did not fulfill that promise?” Jake used to blame his job and his erratic schedule as the reason he had trouble getting things done. But when someone else told him he needed to stop using his job as his scapegoat, it changed his whole mindset.
Listen in as Jake talks about how you can turn yourself into a great leader and help others along the way.
