The first step is simply knowing you are meant to do this. I knew at 26 I was meant to do something bigger with my life. It took two years but I found it. What is your dream write it below?
You already know what you WANT to do. You just NEED to do it. Stop saying “dream.” Use the word “goal” or “new path,” from now on. Dreams are ideas that you want to obtain but don’t have the mental mindset to turn them into your destiny. You can do whatever you want. It’s no one’s job to hold you back from your goals. Release your fears and worries.
If you are like me with a full plate and wanting to reach a personal goal, the first thing to do is to tell the people who surround you. I would not be able to take the time to write this blog post, make the next podcast, or take hours upon hours in the basement filming unless my wife was on-board with my goals. When I decided to take on this project, I sat down with my wife and showed her my goal map. I showed her my plan and where I see the reward in the end. We had a nice conversation: no yelling, doubting, or saying “this is ridiculous.” She asked questions and I gave her answers. At the time she did not understand podcasting so I showed her. Sometimes people doubt you only because they really don’t get it. Show them and then they will understand.
How do we reach our dreams, goals, and wishes? The key is finding other people who have done it. Research other people who had the same dreams and achieved them. Once you find those people, write down their paths to success. Find out what went well and where the dead ends were. Learn from their mistakes and take the key moments that took them to greatness. Try to do that for three people you are inspired by.
Once you learn about others who have made it to the top, now find real people that you can call or email and pick their brains. Be honest and open and understand that their time is precious. Ask them only one question, unless they are very open and willing to talk. Once you get one response, call or email more and more until all your questions are answered.
The last part is the toughest to do and that is, “Just Do It.” I have never had experience public speaking. I am not the purest speaker. I use fillers in my podcasts that are not correct. For example, I use ummmm, you know, like, and many more improper speaking techniques. I don’t let that hold me back from reaching my goal. Every time I get on the mic I get better and better. The same applies to you; don’t be perfect but try to become perfect through your work. You are able to achieve your goals; the only person holding you back is you.
As you go down your new path, your inner chatter will speak loud. Focus on your dream. When times get tough visualize yourself in front of crows or wherever your dream will take you.
-Below take a second and write your “GOAL”. The world is full of dreamers. We need to find the Goal Setters. Tell us your Goal and ask for help maybe we all can give you some advice to keep you going in your new direction!!
