Operation Self Reset Episode 59: Live in Trust, With Michael Hellerslien
In this episode of the Operation Self Reset podcast, Jake is talking with Michael Hellerslien.
Michael recently went through his own self reset, so he’s the perfect guest for this week’s podcast. Michael comes from a corporate background, with a ten year career in American and European corporations. He felt that there was always something missing from his life and his career became more of a duty than something he wanted to do. He found himself one day in this situation with the company he worked for in which he was asked to fix a problem in their system to allow them to stop the company from losing money. This fix allowed the bosses of the company to commit fraud. The company collapsed and Michael was then called up as a key witness against his bosses. That was the turning point for Michael, when he realized he had to change his life.
Through his experiences in the corporate world and the fallout afterward, Michael realized that he was living for the rest of the world and not for himself. It’s something that many of us do in our own lives. We live for the rest of the world by buying the car or the house that gives us status or dating the people that make us look good. We buy the things we don’t really need all just to fit in with everyone else. But what Michael realized and what he now tries to teach everyone else is that we need to find what makes us happy without thinking about what impresses everyone else. We need to learn to be our own selves and not the person someone else wants us to be.
