In this episode, Jake is talking with Geoff Woods, host of the podcast The Mentee.
Geoff works in medical device sales as his day job and loves his job, but toward the end of 2013, one of his colleagues had a stroke. That event made Geoff ask himself, “What would happen if I had a stroke and could no longer work?” He realized that his family would be in a tough situation if that happened. The next week another event happened that made Geoff again look hard at his life: a company change caused his salary to be suddenly cut by 40%.
Those two things changed Geoff’s outlook on his life. He knew he needed to turn things around and set out on a path that would ensure security for his family. He asked himself who were the five people he spent most of his time with and were those five people in the place that he wanted to be in ten years. Those people are still good friends of his, but he realized that he needed to surround himself with inspiring people that could help him move forward and accelerate his life. That is what led him to create his podcast The Mentee and teach others how to do this in their own lives too.
In today’s episode, Geoff demonstrates how to turn your life onto the path you’re dreaming of. Take advantage of opportunities in every day life to let people know what you’re working on or are interested in doing. As Geoff shows us, you never know when someone can be the first step in getting you in that direction, one degree in the six degrees that separate you from your dream life.
So what do you want to do with your life? Where do you want to be in ten years? How will your family survive if you are no longer able to work? Ask yourself these questions as you listen in to Geoff’s advice on how to get yourself on that path to get yourself out there and get the life and security you want.
