In this episode, Jake is talking with Dan MacCombie, Founder of RUNA Clean Energy.
Dan was a marine biology major and his friend Tyler a creative writing major during college. Both of them took time off during college to travel and study in the Amazon. Both of them saw that indigenous communities in the Amazon faced a lot of agricultural limits and whenever they needed money to support their families, they had to cut down their native forests. When they came back to college, Dan and Tyler had to write a business plan for a class. They wrote a business plan that would use guayusa, an Amazonian caffeinated tree from which the leaves can be brewed like a tea. Dan and Tyler decided to move to Ecuador and start the business in order to help the people in the Amazon area.
Dan grew up in a family that encouraged helping others and working toward social justice and fair opportunities for everyone. He knew that he wanted to find a way to help people and our planet. RUNA gives him that opportunity and allows him to do that.
All of us can make a difference in our world, no matter where you are in your life or financial situation. All you have to do is start small and go from there. Take a chance doing something that seems insignificant and see where it takes you. Even the smallest opportunity can take you somewhere big, so don’t wait to follow your dreams and goals.
Listen in as Dan give some advice on how to get started as an entrepreneur and how to help others as you work toward your dreams.
