In this episode, Jake is talking with Douglas Goldstein, a certified financial planner and co-author of Rich as a King: How the Wisdom of Chess Can Make You a Grandmaster at Investing.
Doug co-authored the book Rich as a King with chess champion Susan Polgar. The story of how they became a team started many years ago in Communist Hungary where Susan grew up. Her father believed that genius and success could be taught and instilled in someone and that it wasn’t just luck or natural born talent. So he fought for the right to homeschool his children and Susan grew up spending her days playing chess. Doug himself is the father of four children, two of whom are chess champions. He would sit in on his kids’ chess lessons and learned how to examine his moves from the chess tutor. It hit him that the questions the chess coach would ask about chess could also be applied to investing.
From there, Doug spoke to Susan Polgar about what she thought about the lessons pertaining to chess and investing. They discovered that they had a lot of thoughts that worked for both fields, which lead to them writing the book together. It became obvious that a chess grandmaster was a great person to teach about investing through strategic thinking.
Listen in as Doug talks about how to use strategic thinking from chess to investing. In this episode, he gives advice on how to make smart investment moves and improve your financial future.
