Be Proactive In Boosting Your Self-Confidence

If you suffer from low self-confidence, you probably wish you could build some in a rather short amount of time. After all, low self-esteem can affect just about every area of your life. The good news is that you can increase your self-esteem within a short period of time and begin to feel much better about yourself.  It simply takes a commitment to using helpful tips and techniques and practicing such on a regular basis. Here are 4 ways you can boost your self-confidence in no time:

1.     Monitor your thoughts.

It is important to monitor your thoughts because chances are if you have low self-confidence, you have negative thoughts running through your mind much of the time.

  • Make a list of your negative thoughts and reframe them into positive thoughts. For example, if you find yourself thinking, “I can never talk to cute guys”, reframe that thought into, “I am confident and I can talk to cute guys.”
  • Now repeat that statement many times throughout the day, as you are really trying to retrain your brain to automatically think positive over negative.  Making the switch from negative to positive takes a lot of repetition, but the great part is that changing your thoughts alone can boost your self-confidence dramatically!

2.     Be aware of negative thought patterns

Sometimes the thought pattern you may be accustomed to is inaccurate or irrational. It is important to be able to distinguish between that and rational, accurate thought patterns.  Here are a couple examples of thought patterns that harm self-confidence:

  • All or nothing thinking:  If you have this type of thinking, you will see most things as either completely good or completely bad.  For example, if you fail at something, you might think “I fail in everything!”  Be mindful of this thought pattern because the truth is that it is irrational. Some things may be bad, but not all things are!
  • Using “Always” and “Never”.  These two words really won’t serve your self-confidence well.  Those will low self-confidence might go around saying, “I always mess up!” or “I never get what I want!”  These statements are irrational because no one messes up ALL the time and sometimes people DO get what they want. Do your best to eliminate these words from your vocabulary.

3.     Use visualization.

Visualization is a powerful tool that you can use to increase your self-confidence. Instead of thinking and seeing yourself as having little confidence, begin to take time each day to picture yourself doing the things you want to do with a lot of confidence.  See yourself accomplishing the tasks you want to accomplish successfully.  See yourself walking around with your head up and chest out. Feel confidence soaring through your body.  As you take the time to envision you being confident, you set in motion laws that help you become that way.  Before you know it you will be feeling more confident in each area of your life.

4.     Keep encouraging things before you.

There are many resources available to help you become more confident. Invest some money and time in motivational audios, videos, and books that will help boost your esteem. The more you invest in your personal growth, the more confident you will feel.  Put the things you learn into practice regularly, as I’m sure you know that it is practice that makes perfect.

As you take these tips into consideration and apply the techniques, you will be able to increase your self-confidence in no time. Remember, confidence is simply the way you view yourself.  See yourself as a confident, strong, likeable person. Look at yourself in the mirror and say “I am confident. I am secure. I can do whatever I put my mind to.”  Being proactive in self-growth will get you the results that you want, so begin being proactive today!
